Global Forum for EUR-ACE®-Accredited Programme Leaders – 29-30 May – Lisbon
7th May 2025
A message from the President
This sixth edition of the ENAEE Newsletter arrives at an exciting moment for global engineering education. We celebrate the very first EUR-ACE® authorisations granted to ZİDEK in Türkiye and IEET in Taiwan; we spotlight the UK’s Engineering Council and its enduring commitment to professional standards; we anticipate the SEFI 2025 Annual Conference, Europe’s largest forum for higher engineering education; and we deepen ties with Korea’s ABEEK as we explore future collaboration. Each story speaks to our shared mission of assuring quality while widening the circle of opportunity. Diversity and inclusion are not side notes—they are central to sustaining excellence and relevance in a rapidly changing world.
I invite every member of our community to become an active ambassador: share this news across your institutions, professional networks, and social channels, and help us amplify the impact of the EUR-ACE label worldwide. Thank you for your dedication and for carrying ENAEE’s values forward—together we engineer a more inclusive and innovative future.
José Carlos Quadrado

First authorization of EUR-ACE® Label awarded to ZIDEK (Türkiye) and IEET (Taiwan)
The Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Agricultural Engineering Educational Programs (ZİDEK), a full member of ENAEE since May 2023, has been authorized by ENAEE to award the EUR-ACE® Label to first-cycle Bachelor of Engineering programmes from 1 June 2025.
During the authorization process the EUR-ACE® Review Team (ERT) observed two visits in two different Higher Education Institutions: the first visit was to Ataturk University Faculty of Agriculture in Erzurum; and the second was to Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Agriculture in Bursa.
Similarly, the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET), a full member of ENAEE since November 2023, has been authorized by ENAEE to award the EUR-ACE® Label for the first cycle of Bachelor of Science engineering programmes from 1 June 2025. During the authorization process the ERT observed two visits in two different Higher Education institutions: the first visit at the Feng Chia University (FCU), College of Information and Electrical Engineering in Taichung; the second in the city Chia-Yi at the National Chung Cheng University, College of Engineering.

Welcome to our new member
The Accreditation Agency for Engineering and Architecture Programs (AAPIA), Costa Rica, has been accepted as a full member of ENAEE at the General Assembly on Friday 9 May.
AAPIA is a legally established body of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA), created by agreement of the General Board of Directors of the CFIA (JDG) in order to develop quality evaluation processes in the academic field of higher education for careers in Engineering, Architecture and related disciplines. It also seeks to determine whether an Engineering or Architecture training programme meets the quality standards established to ensure relevant training. AAPIA started as an accreditation agency in 2004.

SEFI 25 Annual Conference
The SEFI Annual Conference is Europe’s largest academic event dedicated to Higher Engineering Education. This gathering offers a unique platform for individuals from academia, industry, and professional organizations to come together for a week of insightful discussions, networking, and an engaging program addressing the evolving challenges in Higher Engineering Education.
At its 53rd edition, the conference is expected to attract approximately 600 participants from across Europe and beyond, providing an opportunity to explore the critical role of engineers in addressing societal challenges and shaping the future of education and technology. Through keynote speeches, panel discussions and interactive workshops, attendees will examine innovative strategies for integrating societal needs into engineering practices and education, fostering a more sustainable future.

Spotlight on the UK’s Engineering Council
The Engineering Council holds the UK register of over 200,000 professional engineers and technicians.
For more than 60 years, the Engineering Council has been setting and maintaining the national professional Standards, making sure engineers in the UK are working with competence and commitment to ethical and sustainable practices. One important way it does this is by approving and accrediting education programmes.
The Engineering Council recognises good-quality education programmes, such as university degrees, that cover the underpinning knowledge and understanding to support the competence required to become registered professionals. The Engineering Council sets the benchmarks that education programmes must follow to gain official recognition, known as accreditation. This helps students, employers, and the public trust that these programmes meet the right level of quality.
Engineering Council and ENAEE
Meeting this standard ensures that courses give students the right knowledge and understanding to work as professional engineers, and to start the journey to becoming professionally registered as Incorporated Engineers (IEng) or Chartered Engineers (CEng). As the Engineering Council is an authorised agency of the ENAEE, the Standard also follows the EUR-ACE® framework, meaning the programmes we accredit are eligible for the EUR-ACE® label which is increasingly recognised within and beyond Europe.
As Deputy CEO and Head of Policy and Standards at the Engineering Council, Katy Turff, points out: “The Engineering Council became a founding member of ENAEE as part of our commitment to supporting the mobility of professional engineers and technicians. With internationally respected qualifications, professionally registered engineers can confidently take their skills abroad – knowing their UK education speaks volumes wherever they go.”
To achieve accreditation of a course, a university must contact a relevant professional engineering institution licensed by the Engineering Council to review and accredit courses. The first step in becoming a professionally registered engineer is to join one of these professional institutions, and often graduates will join the institution that accredited their degree.
Looking to the future of engineering
The Engineering Council encourages all engineers and technicians to consider professional registration as a means to demonstrate their competence and commitment to professional behaviours, so that society continues to have trust and confidence in the profession. Its priorities include a more diverse and inclusive profession, committed to working sustainably and with ethical principles in mind; and for its professional titles to remain respected around the world.

Future collaboration with South Korea’s ABEEK
In April 2025, ENAEE President José Carlos Quadrado visited the ABEEK Conference Room in Seoul, South Korea, and met with ABEEK leadership, including President Woo-Seung Kim, Vice President Hakil (Hale) Kim, and Director Hyo-Ryong An. Discussions focused on potential collaboration in engineering education accreditation, the possibility of ABEEK’s participation in the EUR-ACE system, and ways to strengthen mutual cooperation through information sharing and future reciprocal visits.
The Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) is the sole engineering accreditation body in Korea, dedicated to enhancing the quality of engineering education and ensuring that graduates meet global standards. ABEEK actively contributes to international accreditation efforts and maintains close cooperation with organisations such as the Sydney Accord, Dublin Accord and Seoul Accord.

IEET elects Prof Liang-Jenq Leu as new President
IEET had a new board election in May 2025, and on June 3, the board elected Prof. Liang-Jenq Leu as the new President. President Leu has been a volunteer at IEET since 2011, serving in the capacities of Deputy CEO and CEO. Immediately after earning his PhD from the Dept. of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Cornell University in 1994, President Leu started his teaching career at his alma mater, the Dept. of Civil Engineering at the National Taiwan University and has been a tenured professor ever since. He has also held Chair and President positions in various institutions. He currently works with engineering education accreditation agencies and professional engineer organizations as a mentor and review team chair. Apart from his academic work, President Leu continues to be actively involved in the examination affairs for professional engineers, government projects, and industry consulting services.
Together with other new board members, President Leu is to lead IEET towards new opportunities and challenges while upholding the deep commitment to serve universities and elevate the quality of engineering and technology education internationally.
